A Home Full of Daughters and Love

Lillie and Christopher Breaux love raising children. Lillie loves helping her children learn. The Breauxs have three biological daughters, Michelle, Kimberly, and Aimee. The oldest two are pursuing degrees at Texas A&M. The Breauxs began exploring adoption because they felt they were still young enough to raise more children. “We have a lot to give,” said Lillie. “We have a good home with wonderful role models.” The Breauxs began working with Adopt America Network in April 2009 after being referred by their family’s caseworker. “Our experience has been wonderful,” said Lillie. “I had every issue that came up worked through.”  Lillie expressed that her AAN worker would often just listen to her when she needed someone to talk to and helped her adjust to the way the adoption system works. After months of searching for children and coming close on several other children, the Breauxs were selected for Chelsea and Hannah. The girls had been in foster care for five years. When the Breauxs met Hannah and Chelsea for the first time, the family liked the girls immediately. Lillie thought they were beautiful girls with big smiles. Chelsea and Hannah were a little overwhelmed by getting to know five new people when they first met the Breauxs, so Lillie sent a book of family photos home with the girls to help them adjust. Chelsea and Hannah were placed with the Breauxs in December 2009. The adoption was finalized the following August.

Since the adoption, Lillie and Christopher have seen remarkable changes in their daughters. The girls eat much better now and have lost weight. They both love reading now and have taken an interest in new hobbies and activities. Hannah is very active and outgoing. She loves to play all kinds of sports. Chelsea is more of a home body and is content at home with a good book. Her social network at school is very important to her. “They both have a sense of purpose now,” said Lillie. “They know they have a future with lots of love in it.” The adoption has changed Lillie and Christopher as well. With a larger family, they are always counting kids to make sure everyone is there and needing to cook larger meals. Lillie has a lot more patience and is more open to suggestions because of what she has learned from her daughters. “I smile a lot too,” she said.

Everyone in the family was on board with the adoption. Lillie and Christopher’s older daughters love having new little sisters. Through their new sisters, they have learned how they were at their age. Chelsea and Hannah love being a part of the Breaux family. They adore their older sisters, who are mentors and role models for them. They love all of the new experiences they have had since being adopted. They especially love traveling and seeing new places with the family.
